Back-to-School Safety Preparedness: Training and Drills for K-12 Schools

Please join Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) School Safety on Thursday, August 28 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EDT for a virtual training on back-to-school safety and emergency preparedness actions for kindergarten through grade 12 (K-12) schools.

The start of the school year provides a critical window for school and district leaders to reinforce a culture of safety and preparedness among students and staff. This interactive panel discussion will equip K-12 administrators with practical strategies to integrate emergency response drills, trainings and exercises as core components of a safe and secure learning environment.

Attendees will gain insight into updating and sustaining crisis response and reunification plans with an emphasis on ensuring plans are well understood and practiced by staff and students. The session will also provide actionable tools and guidance to support the implementation of developmentally-appropriate preparedness efforts throughout the school year.

Purpose: The school safety virtual training series is a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and security of K-12 schools across the United States. This series aims to provide resources, support, and guidance to schools and districts to help them combat various safety and security threats. Information is being requested for the purpose of registering for a school safety event offered by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Registration information will enable the agency to contact you with event-specific reminders, supplemental materials as necessary, and send additional post-event communications for feedback.

Routine Uses: The information collected may be disclosed as generally permitted under 5 U.S.C. § 552a(b) of the Privacy Act of 1974, as amended. This includes using the information as necessary and authorized by the routine uses published in DHS/ALL-002 – Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Mailing and Other Lists System (November 25, 2008, 73 FR 71659).
